What’s Love Got to Do With IT?
Everything, it turns out.
At least if you’re Seungbum Yoo – our team’s founder and President.
SY (as we call him) is living proof that when you really love something, you’re willing to go the extra mile for it.
And in his case, literally.
See, after a successful IT career in Korea, SY went the extra mile(s)in 1998 when he moved to Canada to attend the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
Though it would have been easy to stay in Korea, he decided to follow his heart, which told him that the greatest opportunity – the one where he could make the most meaningful difference with his IT talents – lay across the Pacific.
Tapping into his love for the craft, SY graduated top of his class and achieved the highest GPA in SAIT’s history at the time. He was also awarded SAIT’s Canadian scholarship; the first time an international student ever received the honour.
Spreading the Love
After graduation, it didn’t take long for Seungbum to become the “go-to” resource for IT and remote communications in BC.
This was no fluke.
People quickly discovered he would go the extra mile for them on his own accord (“exceeding expectations”, as per his motto).
They saw that he was a giver, not a taker. Someone who cared for them with the same attention and vigor as if they were family – never cutting corners or leaving any stones unturned when it came to their IT setups.
He always had their best interests at heart.
THIS is the foundation upon which SY started TLC Solutions back in 1999, and it’s been the basis of its growth ever since.
Some notable early successes (after opening the first BC office in Terrace) include the entire IT & Telecommunications setup at Red Chris Mine project in 2006, as well as BC Hydro’s northern power line projects.
Fast forward several years, and our company has expanded in many ways, with over 50 “expectation-exceeding” employees across 9 offices in BC, Alberta, and (most recently) California.
Our core offerings have expanded as well, including managed IT services, professional services/projects, communications, phone system implementation, and custom application development solutions.
Delivering Joy
In 2022, we invested in a wave of additional talent to help us carry out our mission to become a “Category of One” MSP (Managed Services Provider).
This includes injecting much-needed doses of not only love, but joy into the market.
More specifically, Technolojoy- our coined term for the joy that comes from leveraging IT in ways that drive efficiency and eliminate frustration.
Now let’s get real; some people may think the notion of love and joy in the business world, and especially in the context of IT, sounds a little corny (hey, we get it!).
But here’s the thing: It’s not corny when it’s true.
It’s just good business.
And as many of our original clients, (who are still with us to this day, experiencing our love and Technolojoy) would say, don’t settle for just any ol’ IT partner…
